In an attempt to fill their rosters for October, the Philadelphia Phillies and Baltimore Orioles traded players during the 2024 trade deadline. After being acquired by the Phillies in exchange for Gregory Soto, rookie pitcher Seth Johnson shot to the top of the team’s prospects list.

Before his junior season, Johnson decided it was time to give up hitting and focus only on pitching, going to Campbell University. With 66 innings pitched, the teenage righty struck out 81 batters demonstrating some nasty stuff. The Tampa Bay Rays picked Johnson with the 40th overall choice in the 2019 MLB Draft, following a year of full-time pitching.
